Water To Go 75cl Active
As someone who spends a fair bit of time in the outdoors, I’m always looking for gear that makes life simpler, safer, and a little more sustainable. So when I got my hands on the Water-to-Go 75cl Active Water Filter Bottle, I was intrigued. It claims to clean pretty much any non-salt water source by using NASA-developed nanotech. Water To Go also say it is their most eco friendly and sustainable bottle to date and designed with the environment in mind. Sounds like a bold promise, right?
Clean Drinking Water, Anywhere
The standout feature of this bottle is its 3-in-1 filtration system. Unlike most filters that rely on just one or two methods, this one combines mechanical filtration, electrostatic attraction, and carbon. Developed using technology originally created for NASA, the filter is designed to remove over 99.9% of all contaminants. This includes bacteria, viruses, chemicals, heavy metals, and even pesticides.
Sounds impressive? We wanted to find out more about this water filter bottle.
Sustainable and Thoughtfully Designed
Beyond the filtering, I really appreciate how eco-conscious the design is:
The bottle is made from sugarcane – a renewable resource and an alternative to petroleum-based plastic.
The lid is crafted from recycled vegetable oils and wood pulp, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
Everything is BPA-free, FDA approved, and 100% recyclable, including the filters.
Even the packaging uses vegetable inks on recyclable card.
And if that wasn’t enough, the company offers a lifetime guarantee on their water filter bottle.
Features That Actually Matter
Here are a few design elements I found particularly useful:
Lightweight: At just 138g with the filter, it doesn’t add bulk to your pack.
Fits in standard bike racks and rucksack mesh pockets.
Hygienic click lid: Flip-top covers the spout to keep it clean.
Fill Level markings so you can see how much water is left.
Detachable loop for carabiner for clipping it to bags. Handy on long hikes.

Testing the Water-to-Go Filter Bottle: A Visual and Practical Experiment
To get a better sense of how the Water-to-Go bottle performs in a real-world scenario, we decided to run a simple, home-based test that would demonstrate its ability to filter out fine particles. While we don’t have access to laboratory-grade testing for bacteria, viruses, or heavy metals, our aim was to create a safe and visual experiment that could still provide meaningful insight.
Preparing the Bottle
Before the test began, we followed the manufacturer’s instructions by pre-soaking the filter. This involved filling the bottle completely with clean water and leaving it to sit for 15 minutes. This step is necessary to activate the filter and ensure it’s working at full capacity.
The Fruit Tea Test
For our test medium, we chose a jug of water mixed with loose fruit tea. The idea here was straightforward: fruit tea contains fine particles, and we wanted to see if the filter could remove those from the water.
We poured the tea mixture into the bottle, screwed the lid on securely, and began the process of squeezing the filtered water into a clean jug. It’s worth noting that applying pressure was necessary. This is expected, as the filter does restrict the flow somewhat while it’s doing its job.
Observations
The water that came through the filter looked clear overall, with only a slight coloration from the fruit tea. Importantly, there were no visible particles floating in the filtered water. To confirm this, we poured the water through a sieve lined with a paper towel to catch any remaining debris. Nothing was found, the towel remained clean, suggesting that the filter had effectively removed any small to medium particles present.
Limitations and Considerations
Of course, it’s important to be clear about what this test does and does not prove. Our test was designed to observe the filter’s ability to remove visible particles. It was not capable of verifying the bottle’s ability to eliminate dangerous pathogens or chemical contaminants like E. coli, Giardia, or heavy metals. Those kinds of claims can only be verified through lab testing under controlled conditions.
That said, our visual test does support the idea that the Water-to-Go bottle can effectively filter out particulate matter, and it gives us greater confidence in using it for everyday situations where water clarity is a concern.

A Few Downsides?
If I had to nitpick, I’d say the bottle could be a bit easier to squeeze. It was quite different drinking from the Water To Go water filter bottle than a non filtered water bottle. It is either just the fact that the water has to pass through the filter or possibly a deliberate design choice to prevent over-pressuring the filter system. It also means you don’t accidentally guzzle more than you need, which is handy when you’re conserving water.
If I had to point out another small thing, it’s that the water level markings on the outside of the bottle aren’t the easiest to read. And unless you can hold the bottle up to a decent light source, it’s a bit tricky to see how much water you’ve got left. I’m not sure what the fix would be, but it’s something to keep in mind.
Styling
Now, I’ll be honest, the Water-to-Go bottles are not the most eye-catching water filter bottles on the market, and nearly all of them are opaque. With good reason, I believe. Because after using one for a while, I’ve come to see the logic behind that. When you’re scooping up less-than-pristine water from a cloudy stream or a stagnant puddle, you probably don’t want to stare at the murk while it’s sitting in your bottle waiting to be filtered. Out of sight, out of mind right? Well it works!
They do come in various colour accents, which is a practical bonus. The Eco Active 75cl bottles we tried had differently coloured silicone bands around the body. It wasn’t flashy, but it made it easy to tell which bottle belonged to who. Handy when you’re travelling or hiking as a family.

Final Thoughts
The Water-to-Go filter bottle has the potential to be a very useful bit of kit, particularly for people who spend time in environments where access to clean water isn’t guaranteed. While it’s not something we’d reach for when tap water is readily available (especially since non-filter bottles are generally easier to drink from), it’s easy to see how this could become an essential item for hikers, travellers, or anyone venturing off the beaten path.
Water-to-Go claims that their 3-in-1 filtration technology provides clean, safe drinking water from any non-saltwater source worldwide. That’s a bold promise and one we aren’t equipped to verify. Our small-scale, visual test clearly demonstrated that the filter does remove fine particles from water, but we can’t speak to its effectiveness against pathogens or chemical contaminants without professional lab testing.
On a more practical note, we found the bottle itself to be well-designed. It’s a convenient size, easily fitting into standard bike bottle cages and backpack side pockets. The cap and lid were secure, and even when the bottle was squeezed upside down, no leaks or drips were observed.
The Water-to-Go bottle also makes a strong case from an environmental standpoint. It’s built with sustainability in mind, using renewable and recycled materials throughout, and packaged in an equally eco-friendly way. With everything being recyclable and a lifetime guarantee included, it’s clear that durability and environmental impact were key considerations in its design.
In the right context, this bottle could offer peace of mind and practical value. As with any piece of outdoor gear, it’s important to understand its strengths and limitations and to use it as part of a broader approach to water safety and preparedness.
