Our camping life started out as a simple case of “bung some clothes in a holdall, stick the tent in the car boot and whack the bikes on the bike rack – job done” – it’s got a little bit more involved than that in recent years, to the point where our camping trips are planned with almost military precision.
- It’s a good idea to try and keep your camping gear stored together at home – be it your tent, your chairs, your tables – if all items are kept together in one place then it’s easier to get them packed into your car or trailer.
- Try and source some lightweight storage boxes which you know will stack well in your vehicle. Try and fill each one with a different category of gear – e.g. tent gear, walking gear, bike gear. That way you can just grab the relevant boxes when you’re packing
Campervan, caravan and motorhome owners have it slightly easier in that your gear can predominantly be kept on board even when parked up at home or in storage. However, there are always additional items which need transferring between home and campsite, so the same storage considerations apply.
So what items do you need to remember? It can be a bit daunting and so we have put a camping checklist together, listing the essential items you mustn’t forget. Just click below for a free printable version.
