Ugreen PowerRoam 1200 Review – a Great Value Power Station

Key Features And Specifications

The Ugreen PowerRoam 1200 has a range of impressive features and specifications that allow it to at least match its main competitors in performance, but at a lower price point at the time of writing. This is because Ugreen are offering an introductory discount which reduces the price you have to pay by £400. We are unsure how long this discount will apply for at time of writing.

At the core of the PowerRoam 1200 lies an array of LiFePO4 batteries with an electrical storage capacity of 1024Wh. This is a really good trade-off capacity for most camping needs because it delivers several days worth of power in a smallish product. The bigger the capacity, the bigger the device volume.

The Ugreen inverter in the PowerRoam 1200 is capable of providing up to 1200W steady-state output power through 2 x 240V AC outlets (UK device).

One feature worth noting is the integration of U-Turbo technology, which allows the device to power much higher wattage appliances (e.g. a 2.5kW kettle) for long periods of time without tripping – it does this by intelligently adjusting the supply voltage and current. We tested this on our kitchen kettle, and instead of the power station tripping as typically happens (e.g. as on the Jackery Explorer 1000), the PowerRoam 1200 was able to boil the water, albeit at a slower rate than direct mains.

The PowerRoam is great for powering multiple devices simultaneously – from smartphones and laptops to electric grills and mini-refrigerators during outdoor adventures or blackouts. In addition to the 2 x AC outlets, there are 2 x USB-C 100W ports (each has an entire 100W, rather than a portion of 100W), 2 x USB-A fast charge ports and 2 x DC5521 sockets.

The power station has a very clear display and a neat smartphone app which is one of the best we’ve seen, and which can connect via either Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. It is on a par with the best power stations on the market for its size.

Dimensions And Weight

The Ugreen PowerRoam 1200 boasts an impressively compact and lightweight design when you consider that Li-Po battery packs are often bigger than standard Li-ion.

The dimensions and weight of this unit are 34.0 × 22.0 × 27.0cm, and it weighs 12kg. Yes this is slightly larger and heavier than equivalent Jackery Li-NMC based power packs, but not really noticeable. The handle made it easy to shift around.

This power pack is very manageable for most applications, and anyone should be able to manoeuvre it into position with little effort. 

In terms of layout, on the left hand side of the power station there is an access hatch which when lifted reveals the mains input (standard kettle lead – no power brick for this station), an XT-60 connector for DC charging (solar panels or 12V car charging) and an override switch in case the unit is accidentally tripped (never happened to me).

On the right hand side lie the two AC sockets as shown in the photograph above. There is also a big fan outlet for cooling purposes. It should be noted that the PowerRoam 1200 is a very quiet power station – much quieter than the rival EcoFlow Delta 2.

Compatibility With Various Devices

One of the standout features of the Ugreen PowerRoam 1200 is its compatibility with a wide variety of devices, making it an incredibly versatile power supply.

As someone who has tested many power stations and inverters, I appreciated the simplicity and rugged design of the Ugreen 1200. It does everything competently and with no fuss or excessive sound (fan noise).

This compatibility extends beyond merely charging smartphones or laptops; you can also use it to power essential appliances in times of need. For instance, during a recent camping trip, the Ugreen PowerRoam 1200 seamlessly powered our mini-fridge, LED lights and even a small electric grill simultaneously.

In emergencies where electricity access may be compromised – think natural disasters or local blackouts – having power station versatility and dependability could prove invaluable.

Design And Build Quality

During my testing, I found the design and build quality of the Ugreen PowerRoam 1200 portable power station to be impressive. The unit has a sleek and robust industrial-grade shell that can withstand harsh environmental conditions, ideal for outdoor activities like camping or road trips.

Additionally, it features a top-mounted carry handle that makes it easy to transport wherever you go. The handle reminds me of the original Jackery Explorer range, and because it is fixed in a vertical position, it means you cannot place any items easily on top of the power station. A slight downside, but not a deal-breaker in my opinion.

The Ugreen PowerRoam comes with an informative LED display panel located at the front of the device. It provides real-time information about battery usage, temperature readings, as well as current load output in watts.

This feature helps users monitor their energy consumption and adjust accordingly to maintain enough charge for the time required.
