Jackery 2000 Plus Review – Hands On With Their First LiFePO4 Power Station

We were surprised to see Jackery switching to LiFePO4 battery tech with their latest 2000 Plus power station – but it could be a masterstroke for some customers…

What we like about the Jackery 2000 Plus: A whopping 3kW output power (6kW surge); Expandable capacity up to 12kWh; 1200W input from solar is still class leading; Very rugged and dependable; Silent operation; Low battery degradation.

What we don’t like about the Jackery 2000 Pro: Weight and size is large for the capacity on offer; A little meagre on the USB and AC outputs; Jackery are never the cheapest option, but they ooze quality!

It’s getting to the point with lithium battery power stations that you should really have a clear idea of your intended use before you part with your money. I feel that all prospective customers should  choose which of the following two questions to answer ‘YES’ to….

  1. Will you be using your power station fairly infrequently (say once a week), and size and weight of the power station matter alot to you?
  2. Will you be using your power station almost continually (say every day?), continually charging and discharging?

If your answer to the first question is yes then I feel you should consider a Lithium NMC station such as the Jackery 2000 Pro. That’s because they are smaller and lighter than the equivalent lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery, but cannot be charged and discharged as often before degrading. If you answered yes to the second question then you need to switch your attention to LiFePO4 and Jackery’s newest power station – the 2000 Plus.

The Jackery 2000 Plus is the company’s first foray into the world of LiFePO4 battery technology and is a bit of a sea change in what they’ve been delivering to the market up to now. If you’re a potential customer, you now have direct access to the two main battery technologies on the market in different products from the same company. In my opinion, this is a masterstroke from Jackery and differentiates them from the competition who are predominantly sticking with the less energy dense LiFePO4.

We’ve been lucky enough to spend some quality time with the Jackery 2000 Plus, and have been able to directly compare it with one of our all-time favourite power packs – the Jackery 2000 Pro (read our review here). It’s a shame that the two names are so similar – it can get confusing remembering which is which.

Our 2000 Plus review will dive into the unique features, performance and pros and cons of this product, as well as comparing it against some of the competitors on the market, as well as the 2000 Pro. Hopefully it will help you decide whether it’s worth investing in the 2000 Plus.

Let’s dig into this!

Overview of the Jackery 2000 Plus

Jackery 2000 Plus review base station in lounge

The Jackery 2000 Plus is a rugged and fairly compact power station with 2042 Wh of onboard capacity, fast charging capabilities and expandable capacity options. When the box arrives with the unit inside, you’re immediately struck by the quality of packaging. It feels like Jackery have got you covered – this company makes great products.

In the box are:

  • 12V cigarette lighter charging cable
  • 240V mains c13 plog (kettle plug)
  • DC7909 To DC8020 Adapter – this is for converting old Jackery solar panels (DC7909) to the DC8020 socket of the 2000 Plus

Weight and dimensions

Lifting the Jackery 2000 Plus may seem slightly daunting, given its weight of 27.9 kg (61 lbs), but in actual fact it is quite easy for an adult to lift due to two carry handles embedded, one either side.

The build quality of the station is reassuringly sturdy overall, and it feels like you can shift it around without damaging the internal electronics. The 2000 Plus stands tall at around 18.6 inches or just over 47 cm with a width and depth measuring about 14 inches each (~37 cm).

Wheels and telescopic handle

Jackery 2000 Plus review handleLuckily you don’t have to lift the 2000 Plus up by the embedded handles if you need to shift it. The power pack incorporates a telescopic handle and two rubberised aluminium wheels that significantly enhance its portability.

The sturdy wheels ensure effortless movement from one spot to another, making it ideal for camping trips or outdoor adventures where you need mobile power access.

The extendable telescopic handle is equally impressive, tailored for your comfort and convenience during transit. Much like a suitcase handle, this feature allows you to adjust the height of the handle according to your comfortable walking and towing requirements.

The flexibility of the telescopic handle ensures easy handling of the 2000 Plus without straining your back — a key consideration when dealing with fairly heavy appliances like this.

Outputs

The front panel of the 2000 Plus has alot of space, and alot of ways to use up the power which is stored on board. You have the option to use:

  • 2 x USB-A, 18W ports
  • 2 x USB-C, 100W ports
  • 1 x 12V 10 amp cigarette lighter output socket
  • 3 x 240V AC mains sockets

I would say that this is the bare minimum sockets that you would expect on a power station of this size and price – some competitors have more – the Bluetti AC200Max for example has 6 x USB and 4 x AC sockets which is excellent. However the Bluetti is let down by a very slow charge time.

Performance of the 2000 Plus

Let’s have a look at the key performance features of the Jackery 2000 Plus and how it compares directly to its sibling the 2000 Pro.

Expandable capacity

One of the most impressive feats of the Jackery 2000 Plus is its expandable capacity. It comes equipped with a substantial 2042Wh capacity, but its ability to surpass this limit sets it apart from previous Jackery products.

With support for additional battery packs, you can increase capacity from the standard 2042Wh up to a staggering 12256kWh which is more than enough to keep your entire house powered for 24 hours of normal use – the average UK use is 12.6kWh per day. If you eke out the power then you could probably run your house for a week.

Remember though that the expansion batteries are fairly expensive in their own right, and you will need to outlay some serious cash if you want the full capacity capability. Add 1200W of solar panels to the mix, and you’ll quickly be over £12k in capex.

Fast charging capabilities

The Jackery 2000 Plus continues the excellent fast charging capabilities shown by the Pro series, allowing you to quickly recharge the power station either from mains or solar. With a maximum input power of ~2.2kW from a standard UK mains socket, the 2000 Plus can be fully charged in as little as 1.7 hours. On solar, you’re limited to 1.2kW of input power, and so it can take a little longer especially if the sun is not shining so brightly.

A great point to note with both the 2000 Plus and the 2000 Pro is that you can use the stored power through all the output sockets (USB, 12V and mains 240V AC), even while the stations are charging up. This is great because it means you can effectively have a perpetual energy machine, which gets topped up as required.

Jackery 2000 Plus reviewThe question of solar panels in the UK is a difficult one – we’ve found that you really do need direct sunlight onto the panels to get an appreciable amount of electricity generated. If there’s a blanket of cloud then it may mean you don’t generate very much at all, which can be slightly depressing. You will need to weigh up the cost vs the benefits – there’s no doubt that when the sun is bright and power is flowing, it can be amazing.

Long lifespan of both the Power Pack and the Battery Cells

The Jackery 2000 Plus portable power station is built to last, with a long lifespan that will meet your power needs for years. Its durable construction and high-quality components make it a reliable choice for any outdoor adventure or emergency.

The LiFePO4 battery cell technology is equally designed for many thousands of charges and discharges. This means that it can be charged and discharged every day for over 10 years, and the capacity at the end of that time will still be at least 70% of what it was when you bought it. Pretty impressive in all honesty, and of course most people will use it alot less than that, extending its lifetime considerably.

With the Jackery 2000 Plus, you can have peace of mind knowing that your power supply will be there when you need it most. So whether you’re camping in the wilderness or preparing for a storm, this powerhouse is ready to keep you powered up daily.

Jackery 2000 Plus vs 2000 Pro

The differences between the Jackery 2000 Plus and the Jackery 2000 Pro are worth highlighting. Below is a comparison table showcasing their features for a better understanding:

Jackery 2000 Plus

Jackery 2000 Pro

Expandable Capacity

Supports up to 5 add-on battery packs, expanding its capacity to 12kWh

No expandable capacity

As can be seen, the 2000 Plus is more than double the size of the 2000 Pro, but actually offers less storage capacity if you’re just buying the power station itself with no expansion batteries. It’s also considerably heavier, but does offer more power and more AC outputs for a similar price.

As we mentioned at the start, if the size and weight are important to you (e.g. if you camp with a small tent or campervan) then we would recommend buying the Jackery 2000 Pro rather than the 2000 Plus. For a home setup with permanent solar or mains charging then the 2000 Plus makes more sense as there is likely to be more space on offer, and the longevity of the LiFePO4 becomes much more important.

My Experience with the Jackery 2000 Plus

The Jackery 2000 Plus delivers exceptional performance, boasting excellent power output and the ability to run high-draw appliances easily. Its sturdy handle ensures easy handling, making it a reliable choice for users on the go.

Excellent Power Delivery – 3kW!

The Jackery 2000 Plus power station boasts an impressive power output, making it the ideal choice for those needing a reliable and high-performing energy source. With its 3000W output, this portable powerhouse can easily handle various appliances and devices, from small gadgets to larger electronics. Whilst not quite at the level of the Bluetti AC500 + B300S which has 5kW of output power, the Jackery 2000 Pro + expansion battery combination is considerably cheaper and has more storage capacity than the Bluetti offering.

We’ve tested multiple appliances with the 2000 Plus – it handled our 3kW kettle with ease and did not slow down the boiling time at all, unlike the Ugreen 1200W PowerRoam.

Whether camping off-grid or experiencing a power outage at home, the Jackery 2000 Plus ensures that your essential gadgets stay powered up and ready to go. Its performance sets it apart from other portable solar power generation systems on the market, providing peace of mind and convenience when you need it most.

Jackery 2000 Plus appSmartphone app compatibility

I love the smartphone app compatibility of the Jackery 2000 Plus. It adds a whole new level of convenience and control to using this power station, and can connect via either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. With the Jackery app, I can easily monitor and customise my phone’s battery backup and power output.

The real-time status updates keep me informed about how much power is left, while the customisation options let me adjust the output to fit my specific needs. Plus, controlling and managing everything from my smartphone means I can do it all remotely, making it even more convenient for outdoor activities or emergencies.

Quiet operation with minimal noise disturbance

I’m pleased to share that the Jackery 2000 Plus power station is designed with quiet operation in mind, providing you with a peaceful and undisturbed experience. With its advanced technology, this power station produces only 30 decibels of noise throughout its use.

Whether using it indoors or in environments requiring low noise levels, you can rely on the Jackery 2000 Plus to operate whisper-quietly. This device ensures minimal noise disturbance regardless of the power output, making it an ideal choice for a silent and efficient power solution.

On a very hot summer’s day whilst charging from solar and mains in combination, the fans of the 2000 Plus barely kicked into action. It really must be one of the quietest power stations on the market – excellent work Jackery!

Clear Display

The display on the 2000 Pro is clear and easy to read. It lets you quickly see how much charge is left in your generator/battery, ensuring you never unexpectedly run out of power.

The colour LED display visually represents the power status, so you can easily identify when it’s time for a recharge. Additionally, the monitoring feature lets you see the real-time wattage input from your solar panels, giving you complete control over your power usage.

Whether on an outdoor adventure or facing an emergency, the clear power level indicator ensures that you always have access to reliable and efficient energy.

Power tracking for efficient usage

I love how the Jackery 2000 Plus is designed with power tracking features that help me optimise my power usage for better efficiency. It’s fantastic to know that I can make the most out of every charge and ensure no energy goes to waste.

With this feature, I found that I could monitor the current state of the battery and power flow and adjust settings accordingly. This enabled me to use my devices and appliances without worrying about running out of power too quickly or overusing unnecessary energy.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the 2000 Plus is certainly a new direction for Jackery – it takes the good points of the 2000 Pro and then either replicates or improves them in combination with LiFePO4 battery cells. The big question is whether you want to take on the downsides of LiFePO4 – namely large size and weight. My preference would be to buy the 2000 Pro for purely camping applications when space is tight, and the 2000 Pro for all other scenarios – e.g. home backup applications. Both power stations have an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) functionality, but this is possibly more suited to the extended life of LiFePO4 and the 2000 Plus.

It’s worth pointing out that Jackery intend to carry on selling both battery technologies as separate product lines for the foreseeable future – I really admire this and hope that the investment pays off with lots of sales of each.

The 5 year warranty from Jackery (if you buy through our links which take you to the official website) offers great peace of mind too. Jackery are a large, reputable supplier of power packs and I’ve never heard any negativity about their customer service.

In summary, the impressive capacity, fast charging capabilities, and expandable options of the Jackery 2000 Plus offers convenience and reliability for all your power needs.

Whether camping off-grid or needing backup power during an outage, the Jackery 2000 Plus delivers exceptional performance and user-friendly features. Say goodbye to a limited power supply with this reliable and versatile solar generator.

9Expert Score

The Jackery 2000 Plus is a great power station, but to my mind, it's not quite as great for camping as the 2000 Pro. I appreciate that this is a personal viewpoint, but I really value the size and weight of the 2000 Pro for camping over the extended battery cell lifespan of the Plus. That being said, the 2000 Plus offers expandable capacity, more AC sockets and a great smartphone app. You pays your money and you takes your choice!
